if you want to have a succesful ec i suggest you hire temp employees they are helpful and boost up your prestige. They are also great till you have a player as a worker.

I agree with red_chick, when you first set up your EC, use temps for everything except grooms (they are easy to get). This really helps. As does looking after it everyday.

Also, try to spend passes on getting bigger boxes for your center, as they are very good value.
